Why Recycle?
CRT glass contains many hazardous and toxic materials such as Lead, Cadmium, Strontium, Barium, Arsenic, Antimony and Phosphor. They also contain non-renewable resources such as glass and steel. A disturbing trend in Australia, is the disposal of these items with minimal or no evaluation of the social or environmental consequences. Industry experts predict that between 1.5-2 million televisions are disposed of annually into landfill, making this the most popular disposal method. Subsequently, valuable non-renewable resources that are in huge demand are lost and deadly toxins such as lead and cadmium are released into our soil, water and atmosphere causing both environmental and health problems. With 1-4 kg of lead per screen, that's an enormous 1500- 8000 tonnes of lead being disposed of into Australian landfills every year.
